Special Project

Though my schedule was pretty cleared, I had one church project that I agreed to work on during Madina’s visit. The United Methodist Conference created a new district because of the population boom in the Lake Norman area. Our church, Huntersville United Methodist, was hosting the installation service for the consecration. Billy asked me to create a giant 3-D map, from the material I use to make props with, showing all the church locations in the new LN district. I buy the 2" thick pink foam insulation at Home Depot for these projects (like VBS set design). I sculpted out the lettering and lake with my hot knife. Then, I primed and painted. I marked each church with little flags I designed and stuck them in the foam with specimen pins for the dimensional effect. It was displayed on an easel for the service.

So, with Madina around, I worked really fast (and really late at night). She was very curious and wanted to help every time I went to work on it. I let her do some (minor damage). I took a picture when she did something, so in the sequence it looks like she did great... it’s very funny! I know this is how it will be when we have Ruby around. I’ll have to adjust how I work and accept that it won’t be as perfect as I want it. Oh, that’s hard to write… God is working on me in this area, I can just feel it!
