Of all the activities Madina experienced, it was swimming that was hands down her favorite (well, except for Disney, but I’m working up to that). She always told me “Kabul no swim”. Maybe here was the first time she had been submerged in water? I don’t know. I do know that the water in Kabul is gross, dirty and contaminated and must be boiled before drinking. Madina has a large scar on her leg from a 2nd degree burn. She told me last year water burned her.
This was a memorable day for Madina. We met Libby, Lindsey and the boys at the pool and had a wonderful afternoon together. Lindsey was so incredibly sweet and patient with her. She was teaching Madina how to kick her feet and paddle. Madina always wears a life vest, so she just floated around and followed Lindsey. After having been swimming a few times by now, Madina was brave enough to try the big water slide. It took her awhile to work up to it, but she did it! She was also jumping in fearlessly over and over. I would pull her out and she would jump in. We cycled through this many times.
I have to give a huge thank you to Libby and Lindsey for being a part of Madina’s story here in America. She loves you and will never forget that day. Thank you too for the clothing you so generously donated to her. It is perfect! While the clothes were hanging in her closet prior to leaving, when we would open the door, she would touch the clothes and say “Oh Lindsey thank you”. Madina was very appreciative of everything anybody gave her.
