Helping at Home

Madina is very good about picking up after herself. She makes her bed everyday and keeps her room very organized and clean. Everything has a special place. Sometimes I see her in there just rearranging her clothes and matching up outfits and shoes. It’s so adorable! I know she is just in awe of the clothes she has now. Who knows if she even has her own clothes living in an orphanage with 60 girls?

For the past two weeks I’ve had to help her shower. She always wants me in there to get the temperature right, pour the shampoo and conditioner in her hands and hand her the towel when she’s done. We’ve been through the routine many times now, so last night I told her she could do it on her own. I was so proud that she did!

She helps me with laundry. I never even asked her, but one day she came in the laundry room and watched me fold clothes from the dryer. She started copying me and now we do it together.

Joe, the master griller in the family, had Madina helping with the BBQ chicken the other night. She was very curious about what he was doing, so he put her to work.

She helps me grocery shop by pushing the cart. She also helps put the groceries away with me. I love how she just observes then repeats. She learns so quickly, and I realized we don’t really have to struggle with conversations and instructions on how things are done. She just jumps in and imitates. She amazes me everyday at what she’s picking up from us! I know Joe and I are very conscious of how we are modeling Christ for this little one. We are literally seeing how actions speak louder than words. Lord, I am amazed at the parenting prep course you are giving us. This is giving me so much more confidence in my role as a future mama.
