LNCR Craft Party

LNCR has scheduled many wonderful events which are great opportunities for the children to be together. Last week we went to a Craft Party at The Cove. The kids made picture frames to take home with them. There were snacks along with great fellowship. I’m really enjoying getting to know other host families. We are always comparing stories about our children to be helpful to one another. It is so encouraging knowing we aren’t alone in this unique experience.

I have made another general observation about these children. They are so different than American kids when it comes to arts. I’ve found through my experience that they just aren’t that creative, nor do they have the desire to be. I can easily tell that these children aren’t exposed to art and are just not inspired. Madina could care less about doing crafts. She’ll work on something for about five minutes tops, but never really seems to be having fun.

At the Craft Party, I did notice an exception to this rule and it was Meetra. She was very detailed in her frame. She took her time and kept coming back to add more embellishments. She was also wearing multiple seed bead bracelets that she made at home. This girl has patience and likes detailed work. I could tell she was really into it and was enjoying herself. I pray that she will be given some creative outlet back in Afghanistan to develop her gift. I’m sure these children don’t have anything like what’s available here. This is so sad to me.
